Our Daily Calcium – Part I: by Dr Damiana Corca

Calcium, the mineral present in the largest amount in our body, plays a vital role in many physiological processes, from birth to advanced age. We all know how important calcium is for the growing child or how it affects people with osteoporosis.  But calcium does much more than that and a correct diet involves much more than eating calcium rich foods. The real skill lies in combining and ingesting the right balance of foods.

Acupuncture 101: by Dr Damiana Corca, DOM, AP

Seen through the eyes of today’s society, Acupuncture still is a rather vague notion. Quite paradoxical, I dare say, since it is one of the oldest recorded healing modalities. Anyway, the simple awareness of its effectiveness and well-established and well-deserved reputation as one of the main healing modalities in China and other countries won’t help you understand more about it. How about some facts to give you a glimpse of what acupuncture means? Continue reading

Ramana on Psychic Powers: By Dr. Harsh K. Luthar

Today, we see that the New Age spiritual business is literally a circus. There are so many gurus and many different types of “spiritual masters” offering a variety of services and products including enlightenment, super natural miracles, healing, and so forth. This is nothing new and in every age there are such people.

The path of Yoga has many branches, and not all of them are the straight path to Self-Realization.

Bhagavan Ramana

I find amusing that many of the so called “spiritual masters” who claim affinity with Bhagavan Ramana (to  bolster their own status) actually teach things which are completely opposite of what the Sage of Arunachala taught. Continue reading

The Secret of a Perfect Coffee: by Dr Damiana Corca

Do you feel you can’t get yourself started in the morning till you’ve had your cup(s) of coffee? You’re not alone, to be sure! But have you wondered why so? Is it caffeine that gives the kick or it’s rather a psychological trick? Probably both! Many of us could make our body more active and ready for action just by drinking a cup of water. I am taking a wild guess here and I think many of you are smiling only at the thought of replacing coffee with water.

But what if for the sake of your health you would be forced to banish coffee from your life or at least cut down your daily ration? I bet you would feel at a loss how to do this! Don’t worry, alternatives do exist. Our dear plants are here to save us once again! Continue reading

Pollen, a Blessing and a Curse: By Dr Damiana Corca

Pollen can trigger different reactions in people. While allergic sufferers might have a fit only at the sound of this word, others might be quite excited by the potential opportunity of enriching their diet with a high nutrient food. After all, would you say no to an energy-boosting and totally healthy food? Continue reading

Chinese Herbs Formulas – a story of a legacy that became history: by Dr Damiana Corca

Chinese Medicine is still relatively new for some people in US and sometimes I come up against the skeptic’s question: does Chinese Medicine work? I don’t quite understand those energy pathways and then those Chinese Herbs, and how would I know that this kind of medicine is trustworthy. My husband always says that he loves skeptical people, just because he can see how people’s reticent attitude is revolutionized after sampling the benefits of Chinese medicine – there is no need for explanation, as the results speak for themselves. However, before getting to the treatment proper, I like to tell a story to the patients that pose such questions. Continue reading

Conscious Yoga Dance: Meeting of Two Sacred Expressions

Conscious Yoga Dance is for me a Dream come true.  By joining Yoga and a creative inner expression, Dance, I have reached another level, finding freedom in the discipline.

I designed Conscious Yoga Dance as a connection between Yoga and Dance to tune our mind to our inner flow.

Conscious Yoga dance allows your body to come fully alive and express itself, building an energy field and breaking inner boundaries. It allows us to become more and more in tune with ourselves, expressing the body connection to the universal flow of life through music and movement.

After practicing Yoga for several years I have experienced a deep inner peace, harmony and flexibility in mind and body. The inter-connection of mind-body-spirit has become a reality for me feeling oneness. Learning how to spread this feeling of Unity is what brings me to study, practice and teach yoga. It has leaded me to find the way in which I can fulfill others and myself in a magnificent way. Continue reading

Sita Sings The Blues — A phenomenal retelling of the epic Ramayana through animation, 1920s jazz songs, contemporary commentary and one woman’s inspiration

A few months ago, a friend of mine suggested I see an animated movie called Sita Sings The Blues — he even went so far as to bring a Netflix DVD over and leave it in the temple where I live.  “Just send it back once you’ve seen it,” he told me.

To be honest, I didn’t feel very attracted to watch the movie.  My friend had mumbled something about, “It’s really great, it’s the Ramayana with 1920s blues songs… and all the characters from the epic tale are there..!”  and somehow the description sounded lame, over all, so I passed on it.

I think we sent the DVD back to Netflix, unseen.
