In the Place of the Quiet Heart: By Ken Knight

Leave it. Let them go;
The bruising car horns,
The tearing blare of amplified film music,
The town with its currency of coins and noise
Has no hold.
Come away,
Leave it.
Let them go,
Come to where the currency is stillness.

How is it that one’s purse can be filled?
Beneath the benign gaze of Arunachala
Whose peak draws up the heart’s delight
And whose slopes soon veil the town,
Take the winding path to a quieter realm.
See the greens and yellows and reds of trees, bushes and earth.
Catch the perfume of soft flowers on the gentle breeze,
Hear the sound of your tread on the sandy earth.
Be patient.
Listen.
Listen to the sounds of many birds singing.
Listen.
Listen to the sound of one bird singing…
Soon you will come to the place of the quiet heart
Where all may take their rest by the silent water,
For here is the currency of stillness.

My Spiritual Journey: By Jerry Biberman, Ph.D.

My personal interest in spirituality, my own experiences with spiritual practices, and the transpersonal experiences I’ve had fuel my interest in learning more about the relationship of spirituality to the workplace. It enables me to stay in dharma. It also enables me to be more aware of other people who share my passion for the subject. In this article, I am going to describe my personal spiritual journey, and how it led me to write and teach about spirituality at work. Continue reading

Love and Reincarnation: By Harsha

We have all known each other since the beginning of time. That is why at some level we recognize each other.

Is it any wonder that this feeling overcomes that there is no choice but to love.

Within our human limitations and flaws, and despite them, the luster from the diamond of the Heart pours forth as all embracing consciousness. My teacher used to say that when two candle flames are joined, it is hard to tell which flame belongs to which candle, as it is the same fire. Love is the eternal flame.

I was remembering my teacher Chitrabhanuji yesterday and the time I spent with him in the late 1970s and the early 1980s. After a while, we were just friends. What would we do without teachers?

Ramana Maharshi once said that the Guru is unreal. The Heart manifests as the outer Guru. The outer Guru points to ones’ own Heart and instructs to look within.

It is only Love playing.

Love to all

Gandhi – The Power of Nonviolence: Dr. Arun Gandhi

Dr. Arun Gandhi, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi and founder of the M.K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence, in his June 9 lecture at the University of Puerto Rico, shared the following story as an example of nonviolence in parenting:

“I was 16 years old and living with my parents at the institute my grandfather had founded 18 miles outside of Durban, South Africa, in the middle of the sugar plantations. We were deep in the country and had no neighbors, so my two sisters and I would always look forward to going to town to visit friends or go to the movies. One day, my father asked me to drive him to town for an all-day conference, and I jumped at the chance.

Prayers for Peace

child praying

The following prayers for healing and peace from different religions have been posted on the Advaitin, Vedanta, and RamaKrishna and HS. I don’t know who compiled these but thank you. These prayers can help us reflect on the essential message of the sages of universal love, compassion, and nonviolence in times of difficulty. Because many people are grieving in their own ways, these prayers may offer some consolation with their message of peace for the human spirit – Harsha

Deep Listening As A Spiritual Path: By Holly Barrett, Ph.D.

Listening Instructions

In graduate school, we would-be psychotherapists were instructed in the various ways to listen to another person. This is a little like teaching love, but several suggestions were offered, including “hold evenly-suspended attention” (Freud), “practice the art of unknowing” (Kurtz), and, my personal favorite, “suspend memory and desire” (Bion). Readers will recognize the similarity of these instructions to teachings on meditation. As it turns out, I suspect that a few decades of this kind of listening had a lot to do with the arousal of kundalini in my body, and the subsequent upheaval that, ironically, led me to get out of the therapy business.

A Letter from Harsha (2001)

My Dear and Wonderful friends,

Spiritual methods are useful to an extent and they are prescribed according to the inclinations of people. They are meant to help you accept your own Beauty. Spiritual practices are meant to make you aware of your overwhelming beauty seeping out everywhere.

The final barrier to seeing the Seer, or being the Seer, is an extremely subtle one. Grace allows for self-surrender to the Divine and this bridge is crossed. The Seer, The Seen, and the Process of Seeing merge Here and the Self-Existent, Ever Present Reality Dominates in all its Nakedness. The ancients called this Self-Knowing, Sat-Chit-Ananda. Existence-Knowledge-Bliss. It is Existence Knowing It Self in Pure Bliss.

Shakti: Power of the Goddess: By Dr. Harsh K. Luthar

Sri Ma Anandmayi

Gopi Krishna’s emphasis on Kundalini as a biological evolutionary force is a very limited view of the great Shakti.

Shakti is the fundamental Spiritual Principle and Force which has physical, mental, and psychic manifestations. These manifestations cannot indicate or capture the depth of this Great Power. Its ultimate nature is only realized when the Shakti completes its Journey to the end and reveals the deepest mystery of existence and the Self is Recognized.

Yes, the Shakti is Maha Sarswati, the Goddess of Wisdom. She makes one a poet, a scholar, and an orator. She bestows high intelligence. She is the teacher in both the earthly and subtle psychic realms.
