Samsara is a Fickle Beast!

From the yogini, mystic, and a great and insightful writer, Mira Prabhu.

Mira Prabhu's avatarmira prabhu

Kiri 16GB sd card 3273‘Samsara’ is a Sanskrit word that approximates to ‘relative reality.’ When Buddha gave us his first noble truth: life is suffering, it was this level of reality he was referring to, simply, the ups and downs of a life lived in duality. It is his fourth truth that points the way out of suffering, and thank Ultimate Consciousness, I say, that there is indeed a highway that can lead us permanently out of this mess!

I’m writing this because I’ve been hit by a series of minor calamities (that’s probably an oxymoron, but never mind.) One dog who refuses since to eat and won’t tell me why, ha ha ha, my other dog who is totally nutso and terrified of most humans, and, out of the blue, a sciatica attack from hell, most likely due to the fact that I’ve been working way too long on the computer. It flared up last night…

Do Not Be Serious About Anything!

From the great writer and mystic yogini Mira Prabhu residing at Arunachala.

Mira Prabhu's avatarmira prabhu

9a777a0771ebcfae58de22014c1fa031-1During my stay at a beautiful Ashram in America long years ago, I was consumed with worry about my future. You see, I had jumped out of the mainstream by quitting a great  job in Manhattan, sold my lovely apartment, left good friends behind, and landed in the Himalayas without a parachute in the middle of a grueling winter. From there, still restless and seeking, I had moved around in both East and West, on a quest for that perfect refuge where I could focus on my creative and spiritual goals. But nothing seemed to work out and by now I was truly sunk in misery.

A friend saw my sad face; impulsively, she tore a page out of the book she was reading and handed it to me. The title said: Do Not Be Serious About Anything: it was a message from the guru of that Ashram, who advised…

Give Up The Sense Of Doership ~ Sri Ramana

Give up the sense of doership

Bhagavan Ramana says in Talk 41 (Talks with Sri Ramana Maharshi) that one should give up the sense of doership in order to be free from the bondage of birth and death. Bhagavan is saying that karma pertains to the body/mind. If we give up the sense of doership, the karma will go on or drop away. Either way, it is not our concern.

have you danced?

From YOGAMUSINGS

rbpolan's avataryogamusings

As someone who is herself running a bit too fast these days (and by a bit I mean waaaay too much), I’m fascinated by the concept of self-care as if from a distance. “I will have time for that someday” has been my subconscious dialogue. This state of affairs is of course unsustainable, and this weekend, which I had carved out to continue working, did not go as planned as I had multiple signs from the universe to put on the brakes and slow down.

There is a tetrad of questions a medicine person in a shamanic culture would ask me if I went to them in my stressed out mode: “When did you stop dancing? When did you stop singing? When did you stop being enchanted by stories? When did you stop finding comfort in the sweet territory of silence?”

I find these to be powerful questions, particularly this…

Dying Every Single Day for Months in Manhattan…

From Mira Prabhu, the gifted writer and mystic currently residing at Arunachala

Mira Prabhu's avatarmira prabhu

IMG_9929_statueA brilliant monk held a motley crew of us dharma students in thrall for many years in the Big Apple. All right, he’d drawl as his eyes lazily scanned the room. Soyou’re all so cool with your stylish black wardrobes and your sophisticated friends. You live in the hippest city in the world and you think you’re doing great. And in the eyes of the material world, that’s true—fat paychecks, nice apartments, great social life, lookin’ good, lookin’ good.

He’d pause for effect then continue into rapt silence. But tell me: what’s the one thing your bosses can never recompense you for? Ah! You got it, smart people—it’s precious human time! Some of you are doing wonderful things for the sake of humanity. Yes, there are literally thousands of good things you can do with your lives—but, if you listen to the great mystics, the highest goal of human life is…

How I came to the Maharshi: By Papa-ji (H.W.L Poonja)

“You, that is me, that is Bhagavan.” ~ Sri Ramana to Poonja-ji.

Harsha's avatarLuthar.com

I have been a visionary from childhood. When I was only five years old I already had visions of Sri Krishna. At first I thought every one could see them. I once said to my mother: “Look! He’s standing there!” but she explained to me that only I saw him.

Serpent Ring And The Magic of Acceptance

From Mira Prabhu, the gifted writer and mystic

Mira Prabhu's avatarmira prabhu

Kiri 16GB sd card 5294I met a wild looking sadhu on the way up to Skand Ashram many moons ago, and noticed that he wore incredible jewelry, all in the shape of serpents, and fashioned of copper and gold.

He told me a jeweler in a town far away had made it for him. I asked if he could make me a ring, and he agreed. I gave him an advance and the ring came as promised—a golden serpent coiled like the kundalini with a small ruby for an eye.

I have grown to love this ring for it represents my passion for the serpent fire (Kundalini)—which is nothing less than the energy of primal mind that fuels the process of enlightenment. Nothing but this fiery energy can halt the power of my chaotic mind, and I use a kundalini practice as a base for Atma-Vichara, Self-Investigation or the Direct Path, as taught by Ramana Maharshi.

Anyway, my friend James recently…

DHARAMKOT

From Mira Prabhu, the Yogini Mystic residing in Arunachala.

Mira Prabhu's avatarmira prabhu

FB_IMG_1472401603075I dashed off this short poem 16 years ago, right after trudging up the mountain, even as snow flakes drifted down to earth. We were heading home, I and the three beautiful American friends with whom I shared a big home with a fantastic view of the mountains. Leopards and bears prowled the area and life could definitely be dangerous!!! I wouldn’t do it again, but I will never regret living on the knife-edge of existence, where my spirit transformed.

David Evans just wrote to tell me that Dharamkot is the current Feature Poem on the Poets International website (link below)…

DHARAMKOT
February 2000/Mira Prabhu

The long steep rocky road from McLeod winds upward
Until we three reach the path
That leads to our snow-bound home in Dharamkot.

Chloe stops to lick the snow
Off tall and silent winter trees;
Eli follows suit, then I too join in.

Three sisters…
