I agree, one cannot tell the spiritual state of another. When asked about this, Ramana said that one could tell a guru by the sense of peace felt within. Feeling this peace witting with Arunachala brought me to move here from the USA. Satgurus, like Ramana, show the seeker the Self within the seeker, and that there are no differences.

Will, It is good that you question. I have checked out Nome most carefully, and as far as I can see, he is an authentic realized teacher of Sri Ramana’s Self-inquiry. He is involved in no financial or any other misconduct, rather he is genuinely dedicated to teaching those who come to him. I would suggest that if you have doubts, that the best way to resolve them is to go see Nome for yourself. Listen to him. Ask him questions and dialog with him.

There are negative comments on Sarlo that are put there by a person who is jealous of Nome and trying to case doubts about him. This person is very persuasive and manipulative, and he has convinced a few others, and they have helped him in his smear campaign. (I think t hese are all overr ten years old, with no new ones posted since then.) From my own direct knowledge I see NOTHING to convince me that any of the negative Sarlo comments have any basis in fact. The reality is very different. Nome does not seek name or fame, money, or power over those who come to him. Rather he does all that he can to bring them to deep knowledge of their own Self. I am deeply grateful for his teaching.

I do think that Russel Smith tried to use SAT to enrich himself. Mr. Smith has a million dollar house on nine acres of mountain top land overlooking Santa Cruz bay. Nome rents an apartment somewhere.) Nome summarily dismissed Mr. Smith some years ago (by demanding the Mr. Smith resign, which he immediately did), when he discovered incontrovertible evidence of some of his misdoings. Mr. Smith then sued, and lost, AND was ordered to pay SAT’s court costs.

Now as to your questioning, Ramana might say that it is best to question yourself, “Who am I?” What is my real identity? What is my nature?

Having been caught up by false doctrines in the past, my motto now is “Question everything”. I felt uneasy in the heart when I first saw Nome so started questioning. The information I found is quite disturbing. I love your site Dr Harsh and have been blessed by most of what I’ve read here but I feel really uncomfortable about Nome still being here. Have you yourself checked this man?
Please don’t feel that I’m trying to impose “my truth” on anyone. I certainly am not. And neither am I suggesting that a man must be a super-man or some kind of perfect being, for all make mistakes. But a mistake, and persisting on a course when the evidence against one is clear, are two very different things. This site http://www.globalserve.net/~sarlo/Yjeffruss.htm has the most detail of the problems but there are several others. As I said, my motto is “question everything” so I didn’t take this lightly.
May I ask your opinion? Thank you or reading.

Nome has had little written about him. He does not seek publicity. He does not talk much about his ‘story.’ He may say, “Of what use is the story of someone who does not exist.” I had the chance in 2007, before I moved to India, to put this article together. This is the first time this has been published.
